Macaroni Mold

Origin: Italy


* 1 Pound Ground beef or lamb
* 3/4 Pound Spaghetti
* 2 Cans tomato sauce ( 8oz.)
* 1 Large onion, finely chopped
* 2 Large clove garlic, finely chopped
* 1/3 Cup Pine nuts
* Salt and pepper to taste
* Bread crumbs


Cook spaghetti in boiling salted water until tender. Thoroughly drain generously butter an angle food or bun pan and dust with fine bread crumbs. Sauté pine nuts in shortening until golden brown. Add meat, onions, and garlic and continue sautéing until lightly browned. Add seasonings and tomato sauce. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Place half of spaghetti in prepared pan. Layer one half of meat mixture on top of spaghetti. Add remaining spaghetti and top with meat mixture. Sprinkle with additional bread crumbs. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand in pan for 5 minutes.

Turn onto a platter and leave the mold for an additional 5 minutes. Remove and serve.
