Mindset Towards Covid-19

It has been proven in theological studies that the purpose of mankind creation is to give humans a chance to achieve the great reward.

Allah has promised the believing men and believing women gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and pleasant dwellings in gardens of perpetual residence; but approval from Allah is greater. It is that which is the great attainment.”(1)
That great reward cannot be obtained without going through tribulations and being tested with adversity, which needs the help of Allah to succeed in.
Natural disasters affect humans, as they sometimes turn into catastrophes by which we are tested. They should be considered as doors of blessings which make us closer to Allah and far away from disobeying him. An instance of disasters being a blessing is when the disaster reminds the individual of Allah and returns them to the right path.
This very reality should not be neglected by believers especially during their hardships. Thus when dealing with the death of a loved one for example, the believer who has that reality in his mind becomes patient and understanding of the facts of life and death. Another example is when a believer loses money in their business or loses their job, they would use that situation to review and analyze themselves and their relationship with their family, friends, and most importantly with Allah.
These days we are living through the covid-19 pandemic, which has caused many hardships for billions of people around the world, crumbled societies and businesses, and changed our everyday life. Without a shadow of a doubt, this difficult period is one of the scenarios that must be faced with the mindset about which we talked above, to make us patient, cause us to reflect on Allah’s greatness and might, and to realize our weakness before God the all-mighty.
However, most people react to this pandemic in different negative ways based on their different mindsets. Some losing patience and letting fear and greed take over them to the point that they fight and abuse for the sake of toilet paper. Others have lost humanity and are calling upon denying aid for specific countries and groups. Verily, this pandemic removed the masks of those who called for liberty and human rights, and showed their real faces.
Yet, what surprises the most is misusing this pandemic to criticize and condemn religion and question its teachings. If the critics who boast about their scientific and social developments reflect clearly on the situation, they will realize that such a microscopic virus that cannot be seen with the naked eye has caused all their developments to fall on their knees, unable to stand up, and has caused an unpredictable future. “Even if every sign should come to them, until they see the painful punishment.” (2)
At the end I invite the dear readers to reflect upon these verses from the holy Quran:
And Allah presents an example: a city which was safe and secure, its provision coming to it in abundance from every location, but it denied the favors of Allah. So Allah made it taste the envelopment of hunger and fear for what they had been doing.” (3)
“And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.". Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.” (4)
