Bahrain’s sprinter Ruqaya Al Ghasara pointed out that she is set to participate in future track and field competitions with hijab.
“I have been wearing the hijab since I was a 10-year-old girl and will observe it forever. Hijab has not affected the results of my competitions. I love hijab,” said Al Ghasara.
“In the 2008 Beijing Olympic games, all participants and fans were surprised to see me wearing the hijab in the competitions. I hope to qualify for the Olympics for a third time,” she added.
Asked about the Fajr International Track and Field Competitions held at Tehran’s Aftab gymnasium, Al Ghasara stated, “It’s the third time that I have taken part in the competitions. However, I didn’t compete with any strong rival in the event.”
She won the gold medal in the 60 meter competition.
