Depression and self-esteem problems are issues many people, especially young people, suffer from. Rebuilding self-esteem after you’ve lost it is a very important thing to do. Living with low self-esteem will often keep you from performing at your best levels, and will often times lead to depression. These problems can end up causing you a lot of problems in your life and will even have an impacting effect on the length of your life. Building self-esteem back up after you have lost it is a something that will take some time, it won’t happen overnight. However, there are some things you can do to help yourself get rid of low self-esteem.
Sometimes one of the biggest causes of self-esteem issues is yourself. People tend to beat themselves down worse than anyone else could ever beat them down with words. Every time you start thinking you can’t do something or any negative thing about yourself write it down, remember it. Once you have compiled a list, start replacing those negative comments you make to yourself with positive ones. Start telling yourself that you can do things, that you are good enough.
Many people don’t realize it, but the brain tends to remember certain things better than other things because of the effect the memory had on making us who we are. Most memories can be tied into something that hurt you in some way. So dig deeper into your memories and try to see why these memories had such meaning to you. Find out why they influenced you so much. To start rebuilding self-esteem you need to start from the very beginning.
What Can’t You Do
Another good option for rebuilding self-esteem is to find things you don’t think you can do. Make a list of all these things that you say you “can’t” do. People with low self-esteem start believing that most things are out of their control, this isn’t true and you need to realize that there are things you can do to help yourself. The things you don’t “think” you can do, you need to start telling yourself that you “can” do them.
One last thing you need to realize is that you need to continually build yourself up. Don’t just stop when you think you’ve helped yourself. Keep building; keep working on making your life happier.
You have to remember to be patient, getting rid of low self-esteem will take some time. The low self-esteem wasn’t caused overnight, and you won’t fix it overnight either.
