This is just after you’ve given birth and are starting to breastfeed. It’s often called the initiation stage.
Breastfeeding now gives vital fluid, immunological factors and nutrients to the newborn (in the first milk called colostrum) and their ‘latching on’ starts your milk flowing.
The majority of new mothers will be in a maternity care facility for some of the time, however, some will be at home during this period.
Why start out breastfeeding?
Remember any breastfeeding is good for baby, so if you’ve made it this far, you’re doing well.
