Question:

I am 36 weeks pregnant and in the past couple of days I've been having cramps that feel a lot like I'm starting my period and they hurt all the way to my vaginal area. Is this normal?

Answer:

This is very common. However, it is important that your doctor checks you to make sure that you are not in early labor.

Usually this type of cramping precedes labor and it allows the lower portion of the uterus to thin out, making labor more effective. Make sure that the doctor checks your cervix to see if it has dilated.

Usually this cramping will resolve if you drink a couple of glasses of water and rest. If it persists, call your doctor.
