Making A Sample Board

Professional interior designers use sample boards as a way of experimenting with possible combinations of color texture and style. The sample board enables you to see in miniature how well different colors, fabrics, and patterns look alongside each other.

It also gives you a cheap easy and enjoyable way to swap one fabric for another on a sample board will cost you next to nothing.

Color
Which existing colors do you wish to retain? Which new colors do want to introduce?

Light
How much natural light does the room receive, and at what time of day? What kind of artificial light do you wish to use?

  • Overhead

Step 1
Buy a piece of foam board (40x60cm)
Buy thumb tacks
Assemble on the board samples of all items in the room, such as furnishing fabric that you would like to keep as they are.
Take photographs of any large items such as rugs lamps or main pieces of furniture.

Step 2
Add samples such as pieces of carpet for each of the base color you are considering.

Step 3
Add sample of curtains fabric of the foreground colors you are considering to use

Step 4
Finally add samples of coordinating colors and color accents, in the form of fabric or cushions or throws.

Move the different samples around on the board so that you can see how the atmosphere of your room may change.With the sample board you are able to see and imagine how your room will work as a unit once it is finished.
