Yes. Islamic law gives you clear permission not to fast if you don't feel strong or healthy enough.

If you feel unwell, or are concerned about your baby's health, you should stop fasting immediately and see your doctor or midwife straight away.

Your body will most likely protect your baby, even if fasting is beginning to make you feel weak, dizzy, confused, lightheaded, or otherwise poorly. However, other problems may arise which may not be good for you or your baby.

You may faint, which could be dangerous, especially if you are walking or driving. You could also be dehydrated, which increases the risk of complications for you and your baby.

Fasting can sometimes make these common pregnancy problems worse:

* headaches
* tiredness
* indigestion
* heartburn
* constipation
* other discomforts

Don't wait until you feel really unwell before doing something about it. It could be dangerous for you or your baby. It's always better to be safe than sorry, so talk to your doctor or midwife if you are at all worried.
